Meditationsmusik

The heart mantra (CD)

Af John Virkmann og Martin Guldberg
The six syllables A AH SHA SA MA HA are also called “Samantabhadra’s Heart Mantra”. In Mahayana Buddhism Samantabhadra is a bodhisattva (an enlightened being motivated by compassion and working for the benefit of all sentient beings). He is also associated with Buddhist practice and meditation. The six syllables of Samantabhadra are said to refer to the six aspects of our primordial state and thus by listening to them or reciting them we can deepen our connection to our primordial state – deepen our connection to the essence of consciousness and love. The order of the syllables sometimes varies. On this CD we use the version that was presented to us by Bob Moore. He noted that the six syllables are related to six aspects of consciousness that can give deep insight. Martin Guldberg: Vocals, guitar, Keybord John Virkmann: Crystal singing bowls, Tibetan bells SatoriMusic 2012

The Chopin Project

Af Òlafur Arnalds & Alice Sara Ott
The music of Frédéric Chopin has been recorded hundreds of times before. But never like this. The Chopin Project brings together award-winning young Icelandic pop/classical musician Ólafur Arnalds and the acclaimed German-Japanese pianist Alice Sara Ott for an exciting new take on Chopin’s music. Arnalds chose a programme of Chopin works to create an emotional arc through the disc, and then composed linking sections for string quintet, piano and synthesizer based on the atmosphere and motifs of those pieces.

Moderato Cantabile

Af Anja Lechner(cello), Francois Couturier (piano)
On Moderato Cantabile they present their own arrangements of works by three fascinating outsiders from the margins of music history G.I. Gurdjieff, Komitas, and Federico Mompou. To differing degree their music reveals influences from the east, both in terms of relationship to folk traditions and religious music, and philosophically. A contemplative air pervades the session. The program has connections to Anja Lechners acclaimed account of Gurdjiefs music on the earlier Chants, Hymns and Dances (with Vassilis Tsabropoulos), but the new duo has its own identity, and time spent in Armenia has deepened Lechners understanding of the contexts from which the music emerged: her cello assumes almost a singers role in these pieces, exploring the strong melodies.

SCREWS

Af Nils Frahm
Nils experienced an unfortunate accident, which saw him fall from his bunk bed located directly above his studio, which resulted in a broken thumb. But through inspiration from his fans and despite the 4 screws that had just been surgically placed inside his thumb, he started recording with 9 fingers, which later resulted in 9 intimate piano recordings.

Die Kunst der Fuge, Bach

Af Marie-Claire Alain
Marie-Claire Alain organ on the Great Organ by Alfred Kern (1975) of the Église Saint-Martin, Masevaux. Famously and enigmatically, Bach never completed the work, and Alain respects this by breaking off the final fugue. ”Let us not forget that Bach was human too,” she wrote. “The brilliant architect and accomplished philosopher speaks and acts as a man both vulnerable and humble in the face of destiny that pursues its inexorable course.”
